To save more than the visible part of a webpage, use the Lightingshot extension's 截取整个页面 (Capture entire page) option. It scrolls the page, captures successive views, and assembles an image in its editor. You can then save that image as PNG, JPEG, or an A4 image PDF. Start with a finite, stable page such as an article or a documentation page.

This guide is for desktop Chrome and the current manually installed development extension. The web image editor can edit a screenshot you already have, but opening it does not capture a different browser tab. Follow the extension steps when you need a new webpage capture.

Install the current extension ZIP

Download the Lightingshot extension ZIP and extract it to a folder you intend to keep. Find the folder containing manifest.json; that is the directory Chrome needs. Selecting the ZIP itself, or a parent folder containing another nested folder, is a different operation.

  1. Type chrome://extensions into Chrome's address bar and open the page.
  2. Turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and select the extracted directory containing manifest.json.
  3. Find lightingshot in Chrome's Extensions menu. Pin it if you want its icon on the toolbar.

These are Chrome's local-extension steps, documented in its unpacked-extension tutorial. This release is distributed here as a development ZIP; it is not a Chrome Web Store listing. If your managed browser does not allow unpacked extensions, follow your organization's installation rules.

Prepare the page you actually want to save

Open the target in an ordinary HTTP or HTTPS tab. Wait for the content you need, including images, to appear. Close an unwanted menu or consent overlay if you can do so normally. For a page that loads images as you scroll, inspect the relevant sections first and return to a stable starting view.

A stitched capture records the page over several moments, rather than freezing all of its underlying data at once. A constantly updating dashboard or endless feed may change during the process. Use a shorter, stable view when that would better represent the information you need.

Run the full-page capture

  1. Keep the target tab selected. Finish resizing the window before starting. Leave the page at the size and layout you want to record.
  2. Open lightingshot from its extension icon. Choose 截取整个页面 (Capture entire page). The popup closes when capture starts.
  3. Let the page scroll. Keep the target tab active and avoid navigating, resizing, or interacting with the page until the extension opens the editor. Switching tabs can interrupt the operation.
  4. Wait for the assembled image. The editor opens in a new tab and stitches the captured views. Scroll through its workspace to inspect the result.

The extension captures the active webpage's content, not an image of the entire desktop or browser toolbar. Chrome's tab-capture API provides the visible-tab images used by this workflow. A full-page result comes from combining those views.

Review the capture before adding annotations

Check the top, a few middle sections, and the bottom. Look for missing images, repeated content, cut-off labels, and an unexpected overlay. The editor fits the image width into its workspace, so a tall result still needs vertical scrolling. Zoom only changes the editing view.

If the image is complete, use 裁剪 (Crop) to remove irrelevant edges, then add an arrow or short label if needed. Review private details before exporting; 遮盖 (Cover) draws an opaque block, while a highlight remains translucent. The privacy-cover checklist covers that final review.

Save the image or a document copy

Select 导出图片 (Export image), enter a useful base filename, choose a format, and select 下载文件 ↓ (Download file). PNG is a starting choice for interface details. PDF packages a tall image into portrait A4 image pages; it does not preserve searchable webpage text or clickable source links. The long-image PDF guide explains its page breaks.

Open the downloaded copy and inspect it before sharing. Temporary extension storage is not a permanent archive: when a later capture starts, records older than 24 hours are pruned. Keep an exported original if you may need another crop later. The exported file does not include an editable annotation history.

When a full-page capture is the wrong fit

If you need only the current view, choose 截取可视区域 (Capture visible area) instead. The extension's suggested Alt+Shift+S shortcut also invokes visible-area capture, not full-page capture; shortcut availability depends on the browser's assignment.

Browser settings and extension-store pages, separately scrolling panels, and pages exceeding the current frame or pixel limits need a different approach. Use the capture troubleshooting guide for those symptoms. Do not keep recapturing a changing feed in the hope that an image export will reconstruct content that never appeared in the captured views.
