Your pictures stay yours.

Updated October 16, 2026

This policy describes this release of the lightingshot website and browser extension.

Images and editing.

Imported images, webpage captures, annotations, and export generation are processed locally in your browser. This release does not transmit image contents to a lightingshot server and has no user-account system.

Local capture storage.

The extension temporarily stores captures in the browser’s IndexedDB database, including the source page URL, page title, capture time, image tiles, and dimensions. When you next capture, records older than 24 hours are removed. This is not an automatic 24-hour timer. You can remove extension data through browser settings or uninstall the extension. Downloaded files remain on your device until you delete them.

Extension permissions.

The extension requests activeTab to access the tab you choose to capture and scripting to scroll that page and temporarily adjust capture-related styles. It does not request blanket access to all sites or access to your browser history.

Website requests and cookies.

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Normal web requests disclose connection details such as your IP address, browser headers, requested URL, and time to the hosting provider. Cloudflare may process operational or security information and may use cookies where required by its security features. lightingshot does not add advertising trackers, marketing cookies, or third-party fonts. Optional Google Analytics 4 is loaded only after you choose Allow analytics. It measures page visits and broad actions such as opening the editor, importing an image, and starting a file download. It does not receive image pixels, annotations, filenames, captured page URLs, or error text. Query strings and URL fragments are removed from page addresses sent to Analytics. Google may process network information and use analytics cookies after consent. You can decline analytics and still use every editing feature, or reopen Analytics choices on any page to change your preference. We store your choice locally for 180 days. See Google’s privacy policy.

Exports and sharing.

Exported files are saved through your browser’s download process. If you later share a file, that sharing is controlled by you and the service you use. Covering private details with an opaque shape affects the exported image; keep any original file secure as well.

Changes.

Future features may require changes to this policy. The date on this page identifies the current wording. No support inbox or personal-data request portal is published for this release.
