When a screenshot seems not to download, first check whether the export form was submitted, the image was generated, or the browser handled the resulting download. Those are separate stages. Keep the lightingshot editor open while checking: refreshing the page can discard the current edit history without solving a browser download problem.
Match the visible state to the next action
| What you see | What to check next |
|---|---|
| The export form stays open without a generating state | Check the required filename and select the actual download button |
| The button says 正在生成… (Generating…) | Let the current generation finish; inspect any error afterward |
| The status says 已生成 PNG/JPEG/PDF 文件 (File generated) | Inspect the browser's download list and chosen destination |
| The editor reports an export error | Preserve the original and investigate image dimensions or resource limits |
1. Complete the export form
导出图片 (Export image) opens a dialog; it does not immediately save a file. The dialog has a required 文件名 (Filename), a 格式 (Format), and 下载文件 ↓ (Download file). Choose PNG for a straightforward image check, enter a recognizable filename, then select Download file.
An empty filename can prevent form submission. If a browser validation message appears, complete the field rather than clicking the button repeatedly. The application adds the selected format's extension itself. Naming a file “report.pdf” while PNG is selected does not convert it to PDF; choose the format control and use a simple base name such as “report”.
The 取消 (Cancel) button closes the dialog without exporting. Check which button you selected before changing browser settings. If the sample canvas is still visible because an import failed, stop and import the intended image successfully rather than downloading the wrong picture.
2. Distinguish generation from download delivery
During generation, the save button is disabled and reads 正在生成…. The current canvas is encoded into an image or packaged as an A4 image PDF. A large canvas can require substantial browser resources. Do not start a sequence of fresh attempts while the current one is still generating.
If image creation fails, the editor displays an error in its status area. The browser's canvas encoder can return no image when it cannot create the output, as described in MDN's canvas export documentation. That is different from a completed file being saved somewhere unexpected.
Keep your original screenshot. If the current image can still be edited, consider a smaller relevant crop and try a single PNG export after generation has ended. If an export has already worked, keep that copy before making further changes. The large-screenshot guide explains pixel, import, and attachment limits; being under the import ceiling does not guarantee comfortable processing on every device.
3. Inspect the browser's download record
After generating a file, Lightingshot triggers a browser download and shows 已生成 PNG 文件, or the corresponding JPEG/PDF message. This confirms that the application reached its download-trigger step. It does not confirm that a file finished saving to disk, that you accepted a destination prompt, or that the recipient received it.
In desktop Chrome, open the main menu and choose Downloads. Look for the recent filename and its state. If it is complete, open it or use Show in folder to locate the saved copy. If a save-location prompt is still open, complete or cancel that prompt explicitly. Chrome's official download guide covers its download list and destination controls.
If the browser reports a failed or blocked download, follow that specific explanation. Avoid disabling security protection as a general troubleshooting step. A file visible in the editor is not proof that the browser saved it, and changing the file extension cannot repair a failed download.
Preserve your work before starting over
The web editor processes imported images on your device; it does not maintain a cloud export queue you can check later. Reloading or successfully importing another image replaces the current editing session. If the browser already has the generated file, inspect that copy first. If you need to correct the crop while the editor remains open, see crop recovery.
For help, describe the browser, selected format, approximate image dimensions, and which of the three stages stopped. Do not send a sensitive screenshot just to establish whether a download button was reached. The help checklist provides the site's current support route.
